Good gracious!

Since I'm pretty sure my blog audience consists solely of family members, you all know about the whole Washington DC internship thing, right? Most likely right. :)
Well, the past two weeks have been quite the experience for us. About the same time we decided 'we were really going to do this!' (this being, pack up in August and hit DC for three months while Matt did an internship with one of Utah's senators and I transformed into a nanny for the adventure) I found out that one of Cedar's Pharmacies is accepting applications for a compounding tech.
(Rewinding just a bit, a couple of years ago I got to job shadow one of our home ward friends, Becky, in the compounding lab where she worked. I just fell in love! It's like Betty Crocker crossed with a mad scientist! If that doesn't sound like fun, then you just don't know what you're missing! ;) Anyway, job shadowing a compounding tech is what started my journey that has lead to me being 4 months shy of a certified Pharmacy Technician. I thought it was so cool that everything has come a full circle to me being able to apply at the pharmacy that I shadowed at!)
So. Now we have not only one big decision on our hands, but two! Both with pros and cons, and each of us having different biases. ;) I've learned that decision making is hard. It's not like this is little stuff, like what should be on my shopping list... this is big deal, change our future kind of stuff! Like adult decisions! (Since when have we been adults? Heavens, time flies.)
Needless to say, we've spent the past two weeks discussing and praying and studying and discussing and discussing and praying and praying and fasting and temple going and praying and discussing some more. Our final decision has been kind of bitter-sweet. We're staying in Cedar when August rolls around, and saving up to send Matt on medical service trips through the Rural Health Scholars program instead.
Mostly I feel relieved, because all my wigging out stress moments have been replaced with peace and confidence in our choice, but I was sooo stinkin excited to travel! I mean, who doesn't want to be a tourist for 3 whole months? And in DC no less! I was drooling already over the Smithsonian adventures, the photo ops, the Capitol, all those monuments... Arlington Cemetery, the National Archives... (Seriously, I was soo in love with the National Treasure movies that I died a little feeling like I'd get to feel like I was in the movie! Kinda! :p) I think the same goes for Matt. We were both pretty stoked to do something totally spur of the moment!
A few nights ago, we were talking about the past two weeks and what we felt and learned from it, and we agreed it's been a good relationship building experience. We learned to listen to each other better, to rely on Heavenly Father, and to really and truly be willing to go forward in faith with whatever He asks us to do. So. All in all, it's been an adventure anyway! ;)
I interviewed for the compounding position last Friday, and I'm waiting to hear back from the Pharmacists to see if I get another interview. The first one was with the HR rep for the Pharmacies, and other stores that they own and was more of a preliminary interview. I felt like it was more laid back, we both laughed a lot and visited a lot about our opinions of working with the public, which was different from all other interviews I've ever had. I guess that's either a good thing or a bad thing and I'm just totally unprofessional, ;) but I thought it went well.

Saturday, Matt and I went to our Stake Temple night in St. George. It was our first time doing a chapel session, and it was such a wonderful experience! Our Stake President spoke with us about previous Stake Presidents meeting in the St. George temple to discuss petitioning the Brethren for a temple in Cedar City. That was a few years ago, and so this announcement has been extra special for those involved with that. (Who am I kidding. It's been extra special for everyone!) He asked us to all participate in a 24 hour fast of gratitude for the Lord allowing us to have a temple built in our home town. :) There was such a sweet spirit in that meeting, and throughout our Sunday meetings.
I've thought about how awesome it is for all those young families in Cedar, because they'll be able to raise their children literally looking to the temple. :) The temple President yesterday told us about how when they were younger it was a tradition for the teenagers in St. George to do a circle around the temple whenever they were driving home from a game, or activity, or date. He told us he didn't really think much about it then, other than he liked it, and that's just what you did, but he realized as he got older that it was allowing them to feel the gravitational pull the temple has, and to keep feeling that when they got to decide to go in the temple.
I've thought about how fun it's going to be to make circling the temple a tradition in the future when we have mini humans running around. Every time we go to grandma and grandpa's, we can drive up the hill to see the Lord's house! :) Can you even imagine all the teaching moments that's going to allow?
I'm so excited to see the building start to progress!

Anywho. Ramble ramble ramble... I should probably stop procrastinating and clean my disaster house. :)
Happy Monday!

  1. Love, love, love this post You two are an amazing couple and are doing things just right. WE are always on the right track when we include our Heavenly Father in our decisions. I'm sure you will have other opportunities for adventures later on in your lives. The temple trip sounded fantastic. What a great experience....Our Stake Pres. asked that we all kneed in prayer at 5:00 on Sun. evening in a united prayer of thanks and gratitide for being blessed with a temple in our City..... Such exciting times....

  2. I loved reading your post. Growing up is hard but you are doing it the right way. Isn't comforting to know you can go to your Heavenly Father and ask what you need to do and he will answer. I love knowing that he really knows us, how we feel, what we think, everything. And to top that he really cares. I love you both and think your both great!

  3. So awesome there's going to be a temple in Cedar!! I'm disappointed you aren't coming east after all, BUT - I do know that you followed the Spirit so you are definitely taking the right path. That's all that matters. I can't wait to see what life unfolds for you guys. :)
