What has been the most difficult thing for you to forgive?
This is kind of a hard one because it's a pretty personal question. :) I don't want to ever write a post of pointing my finger and condemning someone and then telling you how I just am too stubborn and prideful to forgive them for whatever they did.
To be honest, there have been a lot of different things that have been difficult to forgive, but the underlying common thread in them all is forgiving myself. For whatever reason, it seems to be human nature to be able to forgive others easier than it is to forgive yourself.. Of course the Savior died for them, of course the atonement makes them clean. But me? No, I'm too awful or too prideful or too whatever else. The funny thing about that is it's like we're saying we're better than everyone else or above the atonement. We're too special for that to work for us like it does for everyone else. (Anyone else saying bull? Right.)
So I've learned that the atonement is much more encompassing than I realized before. I've learned that you don't necessarily forgive someone all at once- not even yourself. It's definitely a journey, and something that requires humility and relying on the Savior. :) When you turn it over to him, you might still struggle with whatever happened but you're not alone in it, and it doesn't consume you anymore. Eventually you don't really even think about it anymore. :) It's a great feeling to finally let go.
